IRR (Infra-Red Reflectance) refers to a special surface treatment of fabrics, paints, and equipment designed to ensure lower reflectivity in the infrared spectrum. The main purpose of IRR treatment is to make military uniforms, gear, and weapons less visible under night vision (NVG), which operates using infrared light. IRR is a technology that reduces visibility in the night vision spectrum. Military uniforms, gear, and accessories with IRR treatment provide soldiers with a significant tactical advantage at night. In airsoft, IRR is mainly used during MilSim events with NVGs, where every detail of camouflage matters. We recommend Kicking Mustang IRR camouflage suits, which you can find in our e-shop.

Principle of IRR camouflage:
- Ordinary fabrics and dyes reflect infrared radiation differently than the natural environment.
- Without IRR treatment, a soldier may appear under night vision as a bright glowing silhouette.
- IRR technology ensures that the material absorbs and reflects IR radiation similarly to its surroundings, significantly reducing visibility.
Use of IRR in the military and gear:
- Uniforms: Field jackets, trousers, helmets – camouflage patterns include IRR coating.
- Vests and pouches: Modern plate carriers and MOLLE gear are made from IRR-treated fabrics.
- Weapons and accessories: Paints and surface treatments with IRR pigments reduce reflection in the IR spectrum.
- Camouflage nets: Special military nets with IRR reduce infrared reflection.
Difference compared to regular materials:
- Regular fabric: Without treatment, it appears significantly brighter than the environment under NVGs.
- IRR fabric: Blends with the background because it has a modified infrared reflection.
IRR in airsoft:
- Used in authentic uniform and gear replicas (Crye Precision, Helikon-Tex, Clawgear, Warrior Assault Systems).
- For players in MilSim events, IRR camouflage is essential when night vision is in play.
- Lower-cost gear often lacks IRR treatment, making players much more visible under NVGs.
