G-LOFT®

G-LOFT® is a modern synthetic insulation material developed by the Austrian company Goldeck Textil GmbH. It combines the advantages of both down and synthetic fibers — offering excellent thermal insulation, low weight, and outstanding moisture resistance. Thanks to its performance, G-LOFT® ranks among the highest-quality insulation materials used in professional military and outdoor gear. The material consists of hollow fibers with a “spiral memory” that retain their volume (loft) even after long-term use. During production, the fibers are thermally shaped, so after compression they return to their original form. This ensures that the insulation layer does not lose volume or efficiency even after years of use and continues to keep warmth effectively. Unlike natural down, G-LOFT® maintains its insulating properties even in humid conditions and dries quickly.

Main properties of G-LOFT® insulation

  • Excellent thermal insulation:
Keeps body heat even in extreme and cold conditions.

  • Moisture resistance:
Unlike down, it does not lose its insulating ability when damp.

  • Low weight:
Lightweight construction with high loft provides warmth without unnecessary bulk.

  • Quick drying:
Dries significantly faster than natural insulation materials after soaking or washing.

  • Long lifespan:
The spiral structure of the fibers prevents clumping and flattening, keeping the material voluminous even after hundreds of compressions.

  • Easy maintenance:
Machine washable without loss of insulation properties.

Applications of G-LOFT® material

G-LOFT® is widely used in military, survival, and outdoor equipment. It can be found in sleeping bags, thermal clothing, jackets, vests, and insulation liners. Because of its ability to retain warmth even in freezing and wet conditions, it is highly valued by armed forces and professionals worldwide.

  • Sleeping bags:
For example, Carinthia Defence 4, Tropen, Defence 1, and Defence 6 — military-grade sleeping bags used by NATO and the Czech Army.

  • Clothing:
Jackets and vests such as Carinthia MIG, HIG, LIG, and G-Loft ISG — designed for tactical, military, and outdoor use.

  • Inserts and accessories:
Thermal liners for jackets, gloves, or sleeping systems (e.g., Carinthia Liner, Tropen Liner).

Manufacturers and brands using G-LOFT®

  • Carinthia®:
Main partner and developer of G-LOFT® technology, using it across their full product line for NATO, police, and outdoor applications.

  • UF PRO®:
Selected winter gear models combine G-LOFT® with other insulations for advanced tactical performance.

  • Helikon-Tex®:
Uses G-LOFT® in premium tactical jackets and sleeping liners.

  • Clawgear®, Mil-Tec® (high-end line), Zentauron®:
Some of their winter gear series feature G-LOFT® due to its stability and durability.

G-LOFT® vs. other insulation materials

  • G-LOFT® vs. down:
G-LOFT® retains warmth when wet and is better suited for military use; down provides a higher warmth-to-weight ratio but loses efficiency in humidity.

  • G-LOFT® vs. conventional synthetics (e.g., Primaloft®):
G-LOFT® offers greater loft and better recovery after compression; Primaloft is softer but tends to flatten over time.

Conclusion

The G-LOFT® material represents the peak of modern synthetic insulation. Thanks to its low weight, moisture resistance, and long durability, it has become a standard in military and outdoor gear, especially in Carinthia® products. With its performance surpassing ordinary synthetics, G-LOFT® is often called the “next-generation synthetic down” — ideal for sleeping bags, jackets, and tactical garments.
