Airsoft Lasers & PEQ Modules: A Complete Buyer’s Guide

What Are PEQ Modules and Why Use Them?

Do you often play in close quarters or low-light environments? Then lasers and PEQ modules might be just what you need. These compact devices mount onto your replica and help you aim more accurately. They’re used not only by airsoft players but also by real-world military and law enforcement units. Variants include standard lasers, flashlights, IR lasers for night vision, or a combination of all three.

The name AN/PEQ comes from military terminology: AN (Army/Navy), P (Portable), E (Laser), Q (Special/Combination). In short, it’s much more than a “box with a light” – it’s a practical tool with real applications.

Overview of the Most Common Module Types

LA-5 / PEQ-15 – A classic from the U.S., featuring a laser, flashlight, strobe, and IR laser. Controlled via a rotary selector switch.

– You can also find it in our e-shop – HERE.

NGAL – A modernized version of the LA-5 with a compact body, multiple lighting modes, and of course, a laser.
– Available in our shop as well – HERE.

DBAL-A2 – A German-made alternative by Steiner. Offers the same functions as the LA-5 but in a different design.
– Check it out in our e-shop – HERE.

PERST-4 – A Russian module by Zenitco, focused on simplicity: features a standard laser and an IR laser, without a flashlight.

MAWL – A high-quality tactical module from the USA, popular for its advanced features and excellent ergonomics.
– Airsoft version available HERE.

Differences Between Laser Colors

Red Laser – The classic choice. Inexpensive to produce and sufficient for most situations. Subtle and less visible to the enemy.
– Available HERE.

Green Laser – Brighter, more intense, and easier for the human eye to detect. However, it consumes more power.
– Available in our e-shop HERE.

Blue Laser – The least visible option, making it more discreet. Also suitable for individuals with color vision deficiencies.

IR Laser – Invisible to the naked eye, only visible through night vision devices. Perfect for night operations.
– You can find it HERE.

Are Airsoft Lasers Safe?

Lasers sold for airsoft typically have an output of up to 5 mW, which is generally considered safe when used properly. That said, we strongly advise: never aim a laser at someone’s eyes – EVER!

What to Focus on When Choosing a PEQ Module

  • Functions – Laser, IR laser, white light, IR illuminator. Some models allow switching between modes.

  • Material – Plastic versions are lightweight, while metal ones are more durable. Both have their pros.

  • Mounting – RIS is standard, but some modules are also compatible with M-LOK.

  • Switches – We recommend pressure switches for easy and intuitive control.

PEQ as a Battery Box or Style Add-On

Got wiring running to your handguard and don’t want to disassemble the front of your replica every time you swap batteries? A dummy PEQ box could be the answer – a hollow case that acts as a battery cover. Some even come with a built-in Li-ion battery. And if you just want the tactical look? These do the job even without functionality.

What Batteries Do PEQ Modules Use?

Most PEQ modules run on CR123A batteries. If you’re considering rechargeables, watch out – they use different voltages and labels (like RCR123A or 16340), which might not be compatible with all models. Always check before use.

Summary

PEQ modules and lasers aren’t just for show. If you know what you’re looking for, they can seriously enhance your situational awareness, reaction time, and effectiveness during gameplay—whether it’s daytime, nighttime, CQB, or open-field action. Check out our full selection HERE.
